Iraqi Oil Ministry sends kerosene to Kurdistan Region amid winter needs
Falah Mawloud, Director General of Oil and Mineral Investment at the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed the delivery to Kurdistan24, noting that the original request from the Kurdistan Region had been for 268 million liters.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, the Iraqi Oil Ministry delivered a significant shipment of kerosene to the Kurdistan Region, marking an important step in meeting the region’s fuel demands during the winter months. Nine tankers, carrying a total of 50 million liters of kerosene, arrived in the Kurdistan Region, as part of an ongoing effort to provide fuel to both urban and rural communities.
Falah Mawloud, Director General of Oil and Mineral Investment at the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed the delivery to Kurdistan24, noting that the original request from the Kurdistan Region had been for 268 million liters. However, the Iraqi Oil Ministry has currently allocated a smaller amount to be distributed to all provinces and independent administrations within the region.
"The oil sent by the Iraqi government will be distributed to citizens at the same price, including the transportation fee," Mawloud explained. He also expressed some uncertainty about whether additional shipments would be sent in the future but assured that the distribution process would continue in the coming days.
The KRG Ministry of Natural Resources has been proactive in ensuring the region's fuel needs are met, having distributed 250 million liters of kerosene between Sept. 2024 and Dec. 2025. This effort has benefited over 1.2 million families, covering 88% of the total kerosene distributed to date.
In a separate initiative, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani ordered the distribution of kerosene to mountainous areas and urban centers earlier in the winter season, addressing the specific needs of communities in these challenging areas.
This latest shipment reflects the ongoing cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil to support the Kurdistan Region's energy requirements, particularly as cold weather sets in.
