Netanyahu Says Iran’s Regime Is ‘Close’ to Collapse
Speaking at an event with Israeli military leaders, Netanyahu said the Iranian government was “teetering” and “fighting for its survival.”
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said Iran’s Islamic Republic was weaker than ever and could soon be overthrown, as the United States resumed attacks on Iran this week.
Speaking at an event with Israeli military leaders, Netanyahu said the Iranian government was “teetering” and “fighting for its survival.”
“I am convinced that we can remove this threat once and for all — that is, to overthrow this regime,” Netanyahu said, describing the regime’s removal as the “central task” still facing Israel.
He added that the goal was “close” and “within reach.”
Netanyahu, who has for decades described Iran’s clerical government as an existential threat to Israel, launched a joint attack on Iran with the United States in late February. U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly called a ceasefire in April.
Washington has since imposed additional economic pressure on Tehran and resumed strikes this week. Iran has retaliated by targeting U.S. allies in the region, while refraining from attacking Israel.
“If they’re not attacking us, it is not by chance. They attack everyone, but not us,” Netanyahu said, attributing the restraint to Israel’s military strength and determination.
Netanyahu’s remarks come ahead of Israel’s October 27 general elections. Some opinion polls show him trailing, while opposition leaders have accused his government of failing to adequately address the Iranian threat.
