‘Iraq Reiterates Support for Gaza Ceasefire Agreement’ National Security Advisor

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Qassim al-Araji, the Iraqi National Security Advisor, On Saturday reiterated Iraq’s support for the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
"In our discussion with Glenn Miles, the Australian Ambassador to Baghdad, we affirmed Iraq’s endorsement of the ceasefire in Gaza following 15 months of a brutal war marked by extermination and starvation," al-Araji posted on his personal account on X after meeting with Ambassador Miles.

In the meeting, al-Araji emphasized, "We underscored the necessity of adhering to the agreement's terms, avoiding violations, and swiftly facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief materials to the Strip’s inhabitants."

Ambassador Miles, on Thursday, disclosed Australia's approval of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage agreement. " Australia welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage agreement in Gaza after 15 months of conflict and a devastating loss of civilian life," stated a joint announcement by the Australian Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The statement further urged, "We urge all parties to respect its terms and safeguard a lasting peace, including ensuring the immediate release of all hostages and unimpeded and sustained increases in humanitarian assistance to all parts of Gaza."

In another segment of their meeting, al-Araji commended the Australian government's decision to evacuate its citizens from the Syrian Al-Hol camp. "We appreciate Australia's initiative in repatriating its nationals from the Al-Hol camp and reiterate the importance for all nations to withdraw their citizens from the camp, aiming to enhance the region’s and the world’s security and stability," al-Araji noted.
Iraqi authorities are currently voicing concerns over a potential surge of ISIS fighters entering Iraq, fueled by the growing instability in Syria’s Al-Hol Camp. Located in Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, the camp houses about 40,000 individuals from 42 nationalities, predominantly families and relatives of ISIS militants.

Officials are worried that ongoing skirmishes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed Syrian rebels might destabilize the camp, potentially enabling numerous ISIS members to flee and infiltrate Iraq, posing a significant threat to national security.
