ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Independent Iraqi Member of Parliament (MP) Yasser al-Husseini disclosed on Saturday the existence of espionage networks within Iraq that have targeted Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in recent years.
MP al-Husseini informed Shafaq News Agency that over the years, a group engaged in forging the seals and data of the religious authority. However, their attempts were unsuccessful and did not achieve their intended objectives.
"The Iraqi Parliament scrutinizes the outputs of the religious authority, aligning with its orientations, and news is exclusively sourced from al-Sistani’s office. This has proven the invalidity of the fraudulent seals and signatures," he added.
Al-Husseini highlighted that these espionage networks target not only religious figures but also national leaders and businesspeople. "Periodically, significant and potentially harmful leaks from these networks surface in the media, aiming to disrupt the political and economic landscape in Iraq," he concluded.
Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani is one of the most influential Shiite clerics in the world and a pivotal figure in Iraq. As a spiritual leader, al-Sistani has played a crucial role in guiding Shiite Muslims in Iraq and beyond. His edicts and declarations have often been credited with helping maintain civil peace in a country fraught with sectarian tension.
Importantly, his leadership extends beyond spiritual guidance; he has been a stabilizing force in Iraq's political sphere, often mediating during periods of intense political turmoil and conflict. His advocacy for peaceful coexistence and national sovereignty has been vital in shaping the modern Iraqi state.
