ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Rebwar Hadi, Head of the Legal Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, announced on Tuesday that all Kurdish parliamentary factions from various political parties have united to support a bill that would annul resolutions passed by the former Ba'athist Leadership Council.
"Repealing the Ba'athist Council's resolutions was a key condition set by President Masoud Barzani during the formation of the current Iraqi cabinet," Hadi told Kurdistan24.
He explained that the resolutions, which resulted in the dispossession of lands and properties from Kurds and Turkmen in disputed areas, will be nullified, allowing rightful owners to reclaim their lands.
"The parliament's bill will take effect in less than one month, ending the long-standing injustice faced by Kurdish farmers," added Hadi.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhawan Abdullah, echoed this sentiment, noting that the restoration of lands to their original owners in disputed areas represents a significant accomplishment for the Iraqi parliament.
In a statement issued by Barzani Headquarters on Tuesday, President Barzani acknowledged the importance of the move, noting that it comes after a long period since the fall of the former Iraqi regime. He highlighted that the parliamentary decision to "cancel the decisions of the dissolved Ba'athist leadership council" is a vital milestone in addressing historical injustices.
