ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The delegations of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will convene today in Erbil to continue discussions on forming the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Kurdistan24’s correspondent reported.
Rewaz Faeq, a member of the PUK’s negotiating committee, confirmed the meeting, stating:
“The delegations of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will meet for the fifth time today, Tuesday, in Saad Abdullah Hall in Erbil.”
Faeq emphasized that while differences remain, both parties have found more common ground than in previous discussions, and the meetings will continue.
A session initially scheduled for last week was postponed due to governmental and party commitments. The latest discussions are expected to focus on preparing a joint work program for the formation of the tenth KRG cabinet.
The KDP and PUK have so far held four rounds of meetings regarding government formation, with the most recent taking place on January 21, 2025, at the PUK’s politburo headquarters in Erbil.
In the Kurdistan Parliament elections held on October 20, 2024, the KDP secured 39 seats, while the PUK won 23 seats, making their cooperation crucial in forming the next regional government.
