ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdish National Council in Syrian (KNCS) has officially announced its withdrawal from the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) following significant political developments in Syria after the fall of the previous regime.

The decision was confirmed by Faisal Yusuf, KNCS spokesperson, during a meeting held on Friday in Qamishlo, Northeast Syria (Rojava).

Yusuf stated, "During our regular leadership meeting, we decided to withdraw from the Syrian National Coalition due to the fundamental changes that have taken place in Syria after the collapse of the regime."

He further emphasized that KNCS remains committed to engaging in dialogue with the new authorities in Damascus to ensure Kurdish rights in Syria.

Kurdish Dialogue and Unity Efforts

Regarding intra-Kurdish negotiations, Yusuf affirmed that talks with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) will continue with the aim of forming a unified Kurdish delegation to engage with Damascus in future discussions.

The decision aligns with a broader initiative proposed by the Syrian Kurdistan Front, which issued a statement on Dec. 25, 2024, calling for a unified Kurdish stance and joint representation in political negotiations.

The Front emphasized that this period requires clear and practical steps, starting with KNCS’s withdrawal from the Syrian National Coalition, arguing that the SNC had failed to meet Kurdish demands in Syria.

KNCS’s exit marks a significant shift in Kurdish political strategy, as efforts intensify toward establishing a common Kurdish position and engaging with Syria’s new leadership in pursuit of Kurdish political and civil rights.
