Iraq focuses on repatriation to boost economy and employment
While census data indicates that 17.5% of the Iraqi population lives below the poverty line, officials are optimistic that repatriation efforts will contribute to economic revitalization.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq is taking steps to encourage the return of its citizens who migrated abroad, intending to strengthen its economy and improve local employment opportunities. According to Lootka, an organization specializing in migration affairs, 623,245 Iraqis have moved to Europe over the past decade.
The Iraqi government asserts that economic conditions are improving, with financial challenges gradually easing. While census data indicates that 17.5% of the Iraqi population lives below the poverty line, officials are optimistic that repatriation efforts will contribute to economic revitalization.
With 14% of Iraqis seeking employment or financial assistance annually, the government is focusing on reintegrating returning citizens into the workforce. Although the unemployment rate may initially rise from 14% to 16.5% due to the influx of returning migrants, officials believe that redirecting the 250 billion dinars spent annually on foreign labor toward domestic employment initiatives will create new opportunities and stimulate economic growth.
