Kurdistan’s Largest National Park Underway in Duhok
"The massive park, with an investment of approximately $103 million, will feature hotels, motels, water fountains, sports facilities, and designated parking areas," KRG’s Media and Information Department.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has launched the construction of the largest national park in the region, located in Duhok, with an investment of 135 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately $103 M). The project, which includes tourism and recreational facilities, aligns with the KRG’s policy to expand green spaces and combat environmental pollution.
According to a statement released by the KRG’s Media and Information Department on Saturday, the massive park will feature hotels, motels, water fountains, sports facilities, and designated parking areas. The project, covering 1.25 million square meters, is set to become a key attraction for residents and tourists alike.
Currently, 5% of the construction work has been completed, with full completion expected by 2028. Once finalized, the park will officially open to the public, offering a major green space in line with the government's sustainability efforts. Notably, 70% of the project will consist of greenery and water features, reinforcing the KRG’s commitment to environmental preservation.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the KRG to enhance public parks, increase afforestation, and implement measures to reduce pollution across Kurdistan. In recent years, the government has prioritized green urban planning, including the establishment of large-scale parks and environmental conservation programs to improve air quality and public health.
With this ambitious project, Duhok is set to host one of the region’s most significant eco-tourism landmarks, further promoting sustainable development and a healthier living environment for future generations.
