ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed deep sadness over the ongoing fires in South Korea, offering his condolences to the victims and their families.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Barzani extended his hopes for a swift recovery and relief for those affected by the catastrophic blazes. "The Kurdistan Region Government (KRG) stands with the people and government of South Korea at this difficult time," he added, emphasizing solidarity during a crisis that has devastated parts of the country.

The fires, which erupted earlier this week, have caused widespread destruction across South Korea, particularly in the provinces of Gangwon and Gyeongsang. Thousands of acres of land have been scorched, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate their homes. The firestorm, fueled by high winds and dry conditions, has rapidly spread through forests and rural areas, making firefighting efforts increasingly challenging. Emergency responders are working tirelessly to control the flames, with the government mobilizing additional resources to help those affected.

The blazes in South Korea have prompted national and international concern, as experts warn that climate change and urban expansion may be contributing factors to the increasing frequency and intensity of such fires. The government has declared a state of emergency, with President Yoon Suk Yeol assuring the public that all efforts are being made to minimize damage and protect lives.

Amid these trying circumstances, Prime Minister Barzani’s statement of solidarity underscores the close ties between the Kurdistan Region and South Korea. The KRG has been known for extending support to other nations facing disasters, reflecting its ongoing commitment to global humanitarian assistance.

As the fires continue to burn, international communities, including the Kurdistan Region, are rallying behind South Korea, offering both emotional and practical support.
