ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — As the holy month of Ramadan nears its end, the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has once again demonstrated the enduring spirit of generosity in the Kurdistan Region by delivering a sweeping campaign of aid to thousands of families in need.
At a press conference held in Erbil on Friday, Musa Ahmed, President of BCF, announced that more than 5.7 billion Iraqi dinars in humanitarian assistance had been distributed throughout the region in partnership with local investors and charitable organizations.
"In Kurdistan, we are proud of this beautiful culture of giving," Ahmed said, expressing hope that this wave of solidarity from investors and institutions would continue even beyond Ramadan. He extended his gratitude to all those who contributed to the relief efforts, particularly in supporting low-income families and the families of martyrs.
According to Ahmed, the Foundation's staff worked up to 16 hours a day during Ramadan to ensure that aid reached every corner of the Kurdistan Region.
One of the key achievements of this year's campaign was the construction of 15 homes for impoverished families through the Foundation's "Nujin" program, which also provided employment opportunities for beneficiaries. In total, seven major aid projects were implemented across Kurdistan's provinces, independent administrations, and even in the region of Afrin, Syria.
The Foundation provided 48,809 food baskets valued at 976 million dinars and distributed 45,400 hot meals worth 849 million dinars. Additionally, a new voucher system was introduced this year, allowing 2,428 families to collect essential items free of charge from participating markets. The cost of this initiative amounted to 270 million dinars.
BCF also distributed 397 million dinars in zakat to 1,280 families and spent over 31 million dinars on Eid clothing for 452 children, ensuring they could celebrate the holiday with joy and dignity. A further 2.049 billion dinars were allocated to support orphaned children, a gesture that Ahmed said reflects the Foundation's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable lives and investing in the future of the next generation.
"During this month, 5.729 billion dinars were distributed among citizens," Ahmed confirmed. "These efforts were made without discrimination and in coordination with a wide network of Kurdistan Region investors, aiming to bring comfort and dignity to our most vulnerable communities."
The Barzani Charity Foundation, founded on principles of humanitarianism, continues to be a leading force in social support initiatives across Kurdistan. With Ramadan concluding, the Foundation has pledged to maintain its mission of providing hope, shelter, and sustenance to those in need throughout the year.
