ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Yale University will host a conference on the Kurdish Genocide and Memory on Wednesday, entitled “History & Legacy of the Kurdish Genocide” at the Maurice R. Greenberg Conference Center. The full-day conference will spotlight the enduring impact of the Kurdish genocide and the ongoing efforts to preserve memory, identity, and justice for the Kurdish people.
A highlight of the event is a special video address from Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
The conference features a series of compelling panel discussions exploring the historical and political dimensions of Kurdish identity and trauma. Topics include “The History of Kurdish Identity,” “Kurdish Memory Politics,” and “Archiving After Anfal: Preserving Memory & Identity.” Panelists will examine the long-term effects of the Anfal campaign, the challenges of documentation and historical preservation, and the role of memory in shaping Kurdish nationalism and cultural resilience.
The event is organized by leading academic and cultural institutions and provides a critical platform for reflection, dialogue, and scholarly exchange. It also reinforces calls for broader recognition of the Kurdish genocide within international legal and historical frameworks.
