ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Faisal Yusuf, spokesperson for the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria, described April 26, 2025, as a “historic milestone in Kurdish collective memory,” announcing that Dr. Hamid Darbandi, the official envoy of President Masoud Barzani, will attend the conference on behalf of Erbil’s Kurdish leadership
Speaking via his official Facebook page on Friday, Yusuf underscored the event’s significance as “the culmination of a long and arduous struggle for national partnership and united Kurdish positioning in the future of democratic Syria.” The conference, to be held in Qamishlo, aims to consolidate unity among various Kurdish political factions in Western Kurdistan.
Barzani’s Envoy to Attend Kurdish Unity Conference
Yusuf confirmed that Dr. Hamid Darbandi, the official envoy of President Masoud Barzani, will participate in the conference on behalf of the Kurdistan Region leadership. “His presence conveys strong symbolic support for Kurdish unity,” Yusuf said, emphasizing the moral and political weight of the Kurdistan Region’s endorsement.
He further praised the “constructive” role played by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander General Mazloum Abdi in laying the groundwork for the event. “His efforts to bridge gaps and facilitate convergence among Kurdish voices should not be overlooked,” Yusuf stressed.
A Vision for a Unified Democratic Syria
Describing the event as a critical moment in Kurdish history, Yusuf asserted, “April 26 could be the beginning of national consolidation for the Kurds—toward the foundation of a democratic Syria that belongs to all.”
He called on all political factions to “rise to the occasion” and make the conference a launchpad for inclusive Kurdish representation and sustainable national policy.
Turkish-Kurdish Delegation Receives Warm Welcome in Western Kurdistan
Meanwhile, a senior Kurdish delegation from southeastern Turkey (Bakur), comprising representatives from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM party) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). Among them were Keskin Bayındır (co-chair of DBP), Serhat Aran (member of the DEM party), and parliamentarians Salha Aydinız, Gülcan Kaçmaz, and Mehmet Kamatç.
The delegation visited the Department of Foreign Relations in Rojava, where they were received by Ilham Ahmed and other senior officials. The visitors expressed strong support for the upcoming conference and affirmed their commitment to Kurdish unity across all parts of Kurdistan.
Keskin Bayındır emphasized the symbolic and political importance of the April 26 conference, calling it “a message of hope to all Kurds” and a possible “foundational step toward national unity and collective determination.”
As momentum builds toward the conference in Qamishlo, the convergence of Kurdish voices—from Syria, the Kurdistan Region, and Turkey—underscores growing demands for a unified political stance amid a complex regional landscape. With international and regional backing, the April 26 event could mark a pivotal moment in the quest for Kurdish cohesion and democratic participation in Syria.
