ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Russian Consul General in Erbil, Maxim Robin, voiced optimism on Sunday regarding the potential resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, while also highlighting the steady growth of bilateral relations.

"We hope the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region will resume soon," Robin told Kurdistan24. "Relations with the Kurdistan Region are actively developing."

Robin noted that Russian companies are already operating successfully in the Region and enjoy strong economic ties with local partners. He described the economic relationship as productive and emphasized Moscow’s commitment to expanding cooperation.

“Recently, President Nechirvan Barzani met with our foreign minister in Turkey, and both sides were very satisfied with the meetings and discussions,” he said, referring to ongoing diplomatic engagement. He added that a prior visit by Russia’s deputy foreign minister to the Kurdistan Region had also yielded “productive discussions with our Kurdish friends.”

The comments come as efforts continue to resolve issues surrounding the halt in Kurdistan Region’s oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline, a matter of significant economic importance for the Region and its international partners.
