ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received Maher al-Karaki, the newly appointed Consul General of Palestine in the Kurdistan Region, for an official meeting, underscoring the historical bonds between the Kurdish and Palestinian peoples. The encounter also served as a diplomatic platform for addressing the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reaffirming shared calls for regional peace and stability.

The meeting, held on Monday, began with Prime Minister Barzani extending warm congratulations to al-Karaki on the assumption of his new diplomatic post. The Prime Minister expressed the full support of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for the success of the Consul General's mission in the region.

Ambassador al-Karaki, in turn, conveyed the personal greetings and respect of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) to Prime Minister Barzani. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Palestinian and Kurdish peoples and emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral relations across political, cultural, and humanitarian domains.

The meeting also addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Both sides expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence and the plight of civilians caught in the crossfire. 

They jointly stressed the urgency of ending the war, alleviating the suffering of Gaza's population, and upholding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

According to the KRG statement, both sides agreed that the suffering of civilians must come to an end, emphasizing that the protection of innocent lives should be paramount and that a just and lasting solution is essential for ensuring peace in the Middle East.

Discussions further touched on the broader security environment in the region.
