President Masoud Barzani Commends Student Union’s Role in Upholding Kurdish National Values
President Barzani stressed the vital role of youth in preserving national identity and values, urging greater inclusion of women in leadership and investment in students’ political awareness.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — President Masoud Barzani on Sunday met with the Secretary and members of the Secretariat of the Kurdistan Democratic Students and Youth Union (KDSYU) at his headquarters in Pirmam, where he praised the union's recent unification congress and reiterated his strong support for its mission.
During the meeting, Barzani extended his congratulations on the successful outcome of the union’s “Unification Congress,” describing it as a remarkable and distinguished milestone in the organization’s history. “This congress was unlike any before—it was well-organized from the outset, and I applaud all those who supervised and contributed to its success,” Barzani said.
He reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Kurdistan Democratic Students and Youth Union, highlighting the essential role of Kurdish youth in preserving national identity, cultural values, and the spirit of patriotism. Barzani emphasized the importance of integrating women into organizational leadership and called for the union to invest in nurturing students’ political awareness and national consciousness.
Barzani also honored the legacy of Kurdish students and youth who have sacrificed their lives in the nation's struggle for freedom, referencing their pivotal role in the Aylul and Gulan uprisings and beyond. He urged the union to remain committed to the ideals of the Kurdish liberation movement and continue championing democratic values, unity, and national dignity.
The KDSYU is one of the Kurdistan Region's most prominent youth and student organizations, affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). It has historically played a key role in mobilizing youth around issues of national identity, democratic participation, and cultural preservation. The union's congress this year aimed to consolidate internal divisions and reestablish a unified structure capable of responding to new political and social challenges.
President Masoud Barzani, a key figure in the Kurdish national movement and former President of the Kurdistan Region, has long viewed youth engagement as critical to the region’s future. His message to the union underscores the KDP’s broader strategy to cultivate the next generation of national leaders grounded in Kurdish values, resilience, and unity.
