ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Health Saman Barzanji on Wednesday confirmed that two cases of HIV have recently been registered in Sulaimani. The patients are currently under medical supervision and receiving the necessary care.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister Barzanji stressed the importance of accurate information regarding communicable diseases. “Some media outlets publish false statistics about HIV cases, while we release accurate statistics every year,” he said. “It is important to distinguish between carriers and infected individuals.”

He also highlighted the KRG’s ongoing efforts to combat heart disease—the leading cause of death in the Kurdistan Region—by announcing the construction of several specialized heart centers across the Region.

Turning to other health concerns, Barzanji revealed that three cases of hemorrhagic fever, also known as dengue fever, have been reported. One of the patients, a resident of Mosul, is receiving treatment at a hospital in the Kurdistan Region. He assured the public that all three patients are in stable condition.

Barzanji emphasized that the KRG continues to conduct thousands of tests for communicable diseases, including HIV, each month to monitor and respond to public health threats promptly.

The Minister’s statements reaffirm the KRG’s commitment to transparency, early detection, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure to address both chronic and infectious diseases across the Region.
