Iran Executes Alleged Spy Amid Escalating Tensions
Iran executed Majid Mosayyebi for allegedly spying for Israel’s Mossad amid its war with Israel and the U.S. Authorities say he leaked sensitive data and was paid in cryptocurrency. His execution follows Tehran’s crackdown on suspected collaborators as the conflict intensifies.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iranian authorities on Sunday executed a man convicted of espionage for the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency, in what officials describe as part of a broader crackdown on covert operations amid the country’s escalating conflict with Israel and the United States.
According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, the executed individual, identified as Majid Mosayyebi, was hanged in the central city of Isfahan after being convicted by the Islamic Revolution’s Court on charges of moharebeh (waging war against God) and ifsad fil-arz (corruption on earth) for collaborating with hostile foreign intelligence services.
Tasnim reported that Mosayyebi had been in regular contact with a Mossad operative referred to only as “David,” whom he met in a Persian Gulf country. He allegedly transmitted sensitive intelligence to Israeli agents on a weekly basis, including information about critical Iranian infrastructure and individuals of strategic importance.
The report further noted that Mosayyebi received payment in the form of cryptocurrency for his espionage activities.
His execution comes in the aftermath of what Iran has characterized as an Israeli-led war of aggression launched on June 13, which has included numerous airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear installations. In response, Iranian security agencies have detained dozens of suspected collaborators accused of aiding enemy states.
Iran's Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei has ordered an expedited judicial process for such cases, instructing courts to avoid “lengthy bureaucratic delays” in prosecuting individuals charged with espionage and cooperation with hostile foreign powers, according to Tasnim.
Iran has frequently accused Israel’s Mossad of conducting espionage and sabotage operations within its borders, particularly targeting its nuclear and defense programs. The execution marks the latest development in Tehran’s ongoing efforts to counter what it describes as Israeli infiltration and subversion.
This comes on the background of recent escalations between Israel and Iran, and the subsequent U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear sites of Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow.
Since June 13, 2025, a profound escalation has unfolded between Israel and Iran, moving what was long a shadowy conflict into open warfare. On that day, Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion”, a large-scale air and drone strike targeting over 100 Iranian sites—including nuclear facilities, IRGC command centers, and missile installations.
The operation employed some 200 aircraft and reportedly Mossad sabotage teams, resulting in the deaths of top nuclear scientists and military leaders.
Iran responded with missile and drone barrages—termed “Operation True Promise III”—launching over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones toward Israeli territory.
These retaliatory strikes triggered multiple air raid sirens in cities such as Tel Aviv and Haifa, causing civilian casualties in both nations: Israeli authorities reported at least 14 deaths, including children, and hundreds wounded; Iranian sources cited over 224 killed and more than 1,200 injured, with a notably high civilian toll.
The confrontation has now entered its tenth consecutive day, with neither side showing signs of de-escalation.
The conflict is drawing international attention and concern: world leaders and organizations, including the EU, G7, UN, and countries like France, Germany, and Pakistan, are calling for restraint and dialogue.
