ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Israeli military announced it had launched a new series of strikes on missile bases and underground military facilities in several Iranian cities, as the conflict between the two regional powers entered its 11th consecutive day.
According to a statement issued by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday, June 23, 2025, “We launched a series of new strikes on southern and western parts of the cities of Tabriz, Kermanshah, Karaj, and Tehran, including the main IRGC garrison in Tehran.”
The IDF’s announcement marks the latest escalation in a rapidly intensifying war that began on June 13, when Israel initiated an air campaign against Iranian nuclear facilities and missile development sites. The most recent attacks targeted what Israel claims are core command and logistical centers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iranian state media confirmed explosions were heard in Karaj and Tehran and reported that the entrance gate of Tehran’s Evin Prison had been struck. The prison is known for housing political detainees and dual nationals. The extent of the damage remains unclear.
In a related development, Reuters News Agency reported that electricity had been cut off in northern Tehran due to the Israeli strikes, further exacerbating public anxiety in the capital.
This latest wave of air raids comes against the backdrop of an intensifying conflict that erupted following Israel’s launch of “Operation Rising Lion” on June 13, 2025. That operation involved more than 200 fighter jets and drones attacking Iranian nuclear sites, IRGC command centers, and missile bases. The initial Israeli assault resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists.
In retaliation, late on the same day, Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles toward Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa. The missiles targeted both military infrastructure and residential neighborhoods, causing significant destruction and civilian casualties.
Since then, exchanges of missile and drone attacks have continued almost daily, with both sides sustaining losses. Iran's Ministry of Health recently reported over 430 deaths and more than 3,500 injuries since the start of hostilities, most of them civilians.
The situation remains volatile, and international leaders continue to call for restraint as fears grow that the conflict may escalate into a broader regional war.
