ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Tuesday confirmed that he had instructed the Israeli military to respond "forcefully" to what he described as a breach of the ceasefire by Iran, after rockets were reportedly launched from the Islamic Republic toward Israel, according to AFP.

In an official statement, Katz said, “I have instructed the Israeli army to respond with strength to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire and to launch powerful strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran.”

The announcement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a phased ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. The truce, which Trump said would begin gradually, aimed to end 12 days of escalating hostilities that had pushed the region to the brink of wider war.

It remains unclear how many rockets were fired or whether they caused any casualties or damage, but the Israeli response, if carried out, risks unraveling the fragile ceasefire that Washington has worked to broker.

Tensions remain high, and while the ceasefire was welcomed by some regional leaders, including the Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, the latest exchange threatens to plunge the region back into confrontation.

The situation continues to develop rapidly, with both sides trading accusations and global powers closely monitoring for signs of escalation or restraint.
