ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — China's Consul General in Erbil, Liu Jun, commended Kurdistan24 English as a vital resource for staying informed on developments in the Kurdistan Region and beyond, following his official visit to the Kurdistan24 Foundation headquarters on Wednesday.

“The first thing after I come to the office every day is to open Kurdistan24 English to check the news,” Liu Jun told Kurdistan24 English. “And Kurdistan24 English is one of the main channels for me to get the KRI and regional latest news.”

The remarks came following his meeting with Kurdistan24 Director General Ahmed Zawiti, where the two discussed potential areas of cooperation between the media outlet and the Chinese Consulate.

Later that day, the Chinese Consulate General in Erbil shared a statement on its official Facebook page, confirming the meeting and outlining topics of discussion. “On Wednesday, Consul General Mr. Liu Jun met with Mr. Ahmed Zawiti, General Manager of Kurdistan24. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in the field of media, human resource training, and promoting objective and impartial coverage of China-related topics,” the post read.

Also, Kurdistan24's General Manager expressed his appreciation for the strong relationship between Kurdistan24 and the Chinese consulate in the Kurdistan Region.

“At Kurdistan24, we welcome all consulates in the Kurdistan Region, including the Chinese consulate,” Zawiti stated. “The Chinese Consul General is a highly respected individual, and he, along with his colleagues, has visited us multiple times to discuss issues related to China.”

He emphasized the value of this cooperation, noting that it enhances the media organization’s data and knowledge, ultimately benefiting its work. Zawiti also highlighted the Chinese consulate's ongoing support for Kurdistan24, including opportunities for staff members to visit China and gain first-hand insight into the country.

“These visits have inspired us to produce several television programs about China,” he said.

Zawiti revealed that during the most recent visit by the Chinese Consul General, discussions took place about the potential opening of a Kurdistan24 office in China. He expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the consulate in facilitating such initiatives.

The meeting highlighted the superiority of Kurdistan24’s media coverage of local, national, and regional developments, which has made it a trusted and heavily relied-upon source for foreign diplomats and international entities residing in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to stay fully informed about ongoing events around them.

Kurdistan24 English further solidified its reputation as a leading news source during the recent 12-day war between Israel and Iran by delivering extensive, real-time coverage of the conflict.
