ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers, focusing on critical issues including the timely payment of public sector salaries and the resumption of oil exports.

The meeting’s top priority was the finalization of salary payments for June and July, following the joint decisions made by the KRG and Iraqi federal governments. Ministers reviewed progress made by joint committees tasked with implementing these financial agreements.

Awat Sheikh Janab, the Minister of Finance and Economy, presented a comprehensive report on the classification of the Region’s public revenues, detailing their sources and legal frameworks. He emphasized the vital role played by Kurdistan Region’s representatives in the federal committee responsible for classifying non-oil revenues.

The Minister confirmed that the salary list for June has been submitted to the Federal Ministry of Finance, which is now responsible for disbursing the June salaries.

Acting Minister of Natural Resources Kamal Mohammad Salih briefed the Cabinet on recent developments concerning the resumption of oil exports. The Council agreed that the KRG would compensate domestic oil producers and affirmed that oil designated for export and produced by foreign companies would be handed over to Iraq’s national Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) for shipment through Turkey’s Ceyhan port.

The Council reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to the joint agreement with Baghdad and emphasized that the federal government must uphold its responsibility to pay public sector salaries in the Region, in line with other parts of Iraq.

Wednesday’s meeting underscored the importance of ongoing cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad, both in ensuring economic stability and resuming vital oil exports.
