ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A powerful explosion struck the city of Aleppo on Sunday evening, when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt near Al-Wehda Bakery in the Al-Maysar neighborhood, according to Syrian media outlets.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing a source from Aleppo’s Internal Security Directorate, confirmed that the explosion was caused by a man wearing an explosive belt. The blast killed the attacker instantly but did not result in civilian casualties. Security forces have since launched an investigation to determine the identity of the assailant and the circumstances behind the attack.

The incident comes less than a month after a separate explosion in Aleppo injured 14 people. That blast occurred inside a secret underground warehouse containing remnants of munitions near Aleppo International Airport, in the al-Nayrab area.

According to a statement issued by Aleppo’s Media Directorate on its Telegram platform, the detonation severely damaged several surrounding homes. Civil Defense teams swiftly evacuated and treated the injured, who were transferred to local hospitals and reported to be in stable condition.

The Media Directorate added that competent authorities are continuing investigations into last month’s incident to uncover its causes and promised to release findings once available. At the time, Syrian state television attributed the explosion to leftover munitions from previous conflicts stored inside the military facility, stressing that security bodies had begun evaluating the damage.
