PM Barzani: Halabja Becomes First Province in Kurdistan Region with 24-Hour Electricity
“Nearly 4 million citizens across the Kurdistan Region — and over 115,000 businesses — now enjoy 24-hour electricity through the KRG’s Runaki program,” Barzani stated in a post on social media platform X.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced on Thursday that Halabja has become the first province in the region to fully transition to round-the-clock electricity under the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Runaki program.
“Nearly 4 million citizens across the Kurdistan Region — and over 115,000 businesses — now enjoy 24-hour electricity through the KRG’s Runaki program,” Barzani stated in a post on social media platform X. “I’m pleased to announce that Halabja is the first province to switch entirely to 24-hour electricity.”
Launched by the KRG, the Runaki program is designed to phase out reliance on costly private generators and ensure every household has access to continuous electricity, significantly improving both quality of life and environmental sustainability in the Kurdistan Region.
The program officially announced by Prime Minister Barzani on Oct. 17, 2024, was designed with the dual goals of providing continuous electricity and cleaning up the region's environment.
Earlier, the KRG Ministry of Electricity announced that approximately four million citizens, representing over 50% of the Kurdistan Region's population, have received 24-hour electricity through the Runaki program.
