Qatar Files UN Complaint Against Iran Over Missile and Drone Attacks

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Qatar has formally complained to the United Nations over Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting its territory, submitting two letters that documented civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, and an attack on the Ras Laffan gas facilities.

Through its permanent mission to the United Nations, Qatar sent the two protest letters to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council, documenting attacks carried out with Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.

The letters, issued on Friday, and referring to incidents dating back to March and July, said the attacks targeted residential and commercial areas as well as vital facilities, including a direct strike on Ras Laffan gas facilities that caused injuries and temporarily disrupted air navigation.

Doha also responded to the Iranian side’s defense, which relied on specific administrative documents, saying the texts had been prepared as regulatory assessments and administrative risk evaluations rather than comprehensive legal assessments of the events.

Qatar stressed that the ability of its air defenses to intercept numerous drones and missiles did not remove the legal responsibility of the party that carried out the attacks.

The Qatari authorities also criticized the description of the attack on Ras Laffan facilities as legitimate, stressing the facilities’ role in global energy security.

At the conclusion of its correspondence, Qatar reiterated that it is not a party to the ongoing conflict and does not accept any justification for attacks on its territory.

Doha said that attacks on its territory and threats to navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz constitute violations of international law.

Qatar also reaffirmed that it would continue its diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation and reduce tensions in the region.
