ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, said Sunday that the ongoing attacks on the Kurdistan Region are unjustified, calling on the federal government of Iraq and the Iraqi parliament to take action and set limits on those responsible.

Barzani made the remarks on Sunday, during a visit to the funeral of Walat Tahir, who was killed the previous night in a drone attack targeting the Erbil International Airport.

Barzani and Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, attended the funeral ceremony for the victim.

In a press statement, the prime minister expressed his condolences to the family of the victim, to Masoud Barzani, and to the people of Kurdistan.

“This is certainly not the first martyr of Kurdistan, and it will not be the last,” Barzani said.

He strongly condemned the attacks on the Kurdistan Region, stressing that the assaults carry no justification and are driven by hostility and hatred toward Kurdistan and its people.

Barzani warned that the hostile stance taken against the Kurdistan Region would not be forgotten by the Kurdish people.

The prime minister called on the federal government and parliament in Baghdad to take a clear position and set limits on the perpetrators.

“Unfortunately, the groups carrying out these acts are still being funded by the government in Baghdad and are receiving salaries and weapons,” he said.

Barzani also warned that such attacks must stop, adding that the Kurdistan Region should not be forced into a situation where it has to take a different stance.

“We will never accept the continuation of these attacks, nor will we allow the blood of our martyrs to be shed in vain,” he said.

He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has never been and will never become a source of threat to neighboring countries, while calling on the international community to assist in protecting the region.

Barzani also addressed the economic situation, explaining that the issue does not stem from the government itself, but from oil and gas production companies that have reduced their output. He expressed hope that conditions would return to normal after the end of the war and that the problem would be resolved as soon as possible.
