ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraq’s National Security Advisory has strongly condemned the drone attack on the office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, warning that attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region and official institutions could derail peace efforts and create broader security consequences for Iraq.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the advisory body condemned the attack on the office of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and warned of its security repercussions for the country as a whole.

The advisory said that targeting the Kurdistan Region and attacking official institutions would undermine efforts to advance peace, while Iraq is already facing difficult security challenges.

The National Security Advisory said the attack came at a dangerous moment and reiterated its rejection of attacks regardless of which side carries them out.

“We condemn this irresponsible act and once again reaffirm our rejection of any attack carried out by any party, which would expose our country and people to a dangerous phase of escalation with undesirable consequences,” the statement said.

The advisory stressed that such actions must not be allowed to push Iraq back into the difficult stages of the past that the country has already moved beyond.

It called for preventing actions of this kind from undermining peace efforts or reopening security challenges that Iraq has worked to overcome.

The statement placed the attack within a broader security context, warning that targeting the Kurdistan Region and official institutions could have consequences beyond the immediate incident.

The National Security Advisory emphasized that Iraq must not be drawn back into previous periods of instability, stressing that actions capable of producing further escalation should not be permitted.

The statement comes as Iraqi authorities reiterate their opposition to attacks that could threaten the country's security and stability and disrupt efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
