Kurdistan Region Security Forces Arrest Seven Wanted ISIS Members in Sulaimani
According to the agency, the arrests were carried out based on intelligence information that led security forces to locate the suspects while they were hiding in Sulaimani and surrounding areas.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Security Agency announced on Tuesday that its forces had arrested seven wanted members of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization in and around Sulaimani city.
According to the agency, the arrests were carried out based on intelligence information that led security forces to locate the suspects while they were hiding in Sulaimani and surrounding areas.
The agency said the seven individuals were former ISIS members and were wanted by Iraqi courts under Article 4 of Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Law.
Following their arrest, the suspects were transferred on Tuesday to the relevant federal government authorities to complete the necessary legal and investigative procedures.
The operation comes amid continued counterterrorism efforts by Iraqi and Kurdistan Region security forces to track down remaining ISIS members and suspects. Although ISIS no longer controls territory in Iraq as it did at the height of its territorial expansion, security assessments continue to identify remnants of the group as a potential threat, particularly in remote areas.
Security forces in the Kurdistan Region have also carried out previous operations in Sulaimani targeting individuals wanted under Iraq’s counter-terrorism legislation.
