India Signs Deal with US to Acquire Javelin Missile Systems
The Indian army has signed an agreement with the United States to acquire Javelin anti-tank missile systems, without disclosing the financial details or value of the deal.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Indian army has signed an agreement with the United States to purchase Javelin anti-tank missile systems, strengthening defense cooperation between New Delhi and Washington, while the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
The US Embassy in India said in a statement posted on X that the Javelin is a medium-range guided missile system jointly produced by Lockheed Martin and RTX. The system is designed to strike a range of targets, particularly armored vehicles, and is used by US forces and several other countries.
Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India, said: “The agreement opens new opportunities for the defense industries of both countries to strengthen cooperation.”
The US ambassador added that Washington expects further cooperation that would contribute to supporting the defense industrial bases of both countries.
The agreement comes as part of expanding defense cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.
The development follows several months of tensions in bilateral relations stemming from trade disputes and India’s purchases of Russian oil.
According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, India is among the countries with the highest defense spending in the world and is also one of the leading arms-importing countries.
The Javelin agreement marks another step in the growing defense relationship between India and the United States.
