Iraq’s Oil Exports Surpass Three Million Barrels Per Day
Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudhair says Iraq is diversifying its export routes and advancing a strategic pipeline project linking Basra to Fishkhabur and Türkiye.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraq’s oil exports have surpassed three million barrels per day as the country moves to diversify its export routes and reduce the risks posed by disruptions to regional waterways, Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudhir said.
Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency, Khudhir said Iraq had diversified its oil export sources, with daily exports now exceeding three million barrels.
Khudhir said the government is continuing efforts to ensure refined fuel products are supplied to citizens domestically and to enable the country to rely more heavily on its own capabilities.
He also pointed to several strategic oil-sector projects currently being pursued, including the development of infrastructure intended to expand Iraq’s options for exporting crude oil.
One of the key projects highlighted by the oil minister is the connection between Basra and Faysh-Khabur to facilitate oil exports through Türkiye.
Khudhir also pointed to continued investment in natural gas as part of Iraq’s broader strategic plans in the energy sector.
Iraq is one of the world’s major oil producers and exporters, while the country’s revenues remain heavily dependent on crude oil sales. Amid regional complexities and risks facing waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, the Iraqi government has sought to diversify its oil export sources and routes to prevent disruptions to exports.
A plan to extend an oil pipeline from Basra to Faysh-Khabur, and subsequently to Türkiye and Syria’s Banias port, is among the Iraqi Oil Ministry’s strategic plans to address those risks.
At the same time, Iraq is seeking to increase its oil exports to five million barrels per day in the future.
