Syria Condemns Netanyahu’s Entry Into Territory as ‘Blatant Violation’ of Sovereignty
Damascus denounces Israeli prime minister’s visit to troops stationed in southern Syria and tour of Mount Hermon
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Syria on Wednesday strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s entry into Syrian territory after he visited Israeli troops stationed in southern Syria, calling the move a “provocative” and “blatant violation” of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns the illegal entry of Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into Syrian territory and his tour of Mount Hermon,” Syria’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry described Netanyahu’s visit as “a provocative move and a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and of international law.”
Netanyahu visited Israeli forces stationed in southern Syria on Wednesday, where he toured the Mount Hermon area near the Israel-Syria border. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accompanied him during the visit.
During the visit, Netanyahu said Iran’s Islamic Republic was “very close” to collapse as the six-month Middle East war between Israel, the United States and Iran continues to intensify.
“There is still work to be done — the main task is to bring down the terror regime in Iran. We are very close to that,” Netanyahu said while visiting Israeli troops on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.
The comments came as Israel continues its media campaign against Iran alongside the United States' military actions, with the conflict contributing to heightened tensions across the wider region.
Netanyahu’s visit also underscored the strategic importance of Mount Hermon, a mountainous area overlooking parts of Syria, Israel and Lebanon.
Israeli forces have maintained positions in the area amid heightened security tensions along the frontier.
Damascus has repeatedly condemned Israeli military activity on Syrian territory, describing Israeli incursions and strikes as violations of its sovereignty.
The Israeli government has defended its military presence in strategic areas near the border as necessary for Israel’s security, particularly amid regional instability and the continuing conflict involving Iran and its proxies in the region.
The latest dispute comes against the backdrop of the wider Middle East war, which has intensified military tensions across the region and drawn multiple actors into the conflict.
