PM Barzani, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Discuss Security, Economy, 2027 Budget
The two sides underscored the importance of preserving security, peace, and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi and a delegation from the Iraqi Council of Representatives on Thursday evening, according to a statement from Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
During the meeting, al-Halbousi, on behalf of the delegation, extended condolences to Prime Minister Barzani over the passing of Abdulwahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani.
The two sides underscored the importance of preserving security, peace, and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and coordination among Iraq’s political forces and parties to address the country’s various challenges, particularly its current security and economic conditions.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of supporting the federal government and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in improving Iraq’s financial situation, delivering services to all citizens and communities without discrimination, and resolving outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil based on the Constitution and respect for the Region’s constitutional status.
The two sides further discussed preparations for drafting Iraq’s 2027 federal budget bill.
In this regard, al-Halbousi assured that the budget would be prepared fairly and that the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region and all components would be safeguarded.
