PM Barzani Calls for Kurdish Unity on 65th Anniversary of September Revolution

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Friday marked the 65th anniversary of the September Revolution, honoring its participants and calling for unity among Kurdish political forces to protect the constitutional status and achievements of the Kurdistan Region.

“On the 65th anniversary of the commencement of the Great September Revolution, led by our national leader Mustafa Barzani, we honor and remember all Peshmerga, patriots, and participants,” Prime Minister Barzani said in a statement.

He said the revolution brought members of different ethnic and religious communities together to secure the fundamental rights of the people of Kurdistan, ultimately contributing to the historic March 11, 1970 Agreement between Baghdad and the Kurdish leadership.

“On this historic occasion, we reaffirm the need for unity and solidarity among all Kurdish political forces and parties,” Barzani said.

“Together, we remain committed to defending, upholding, and advancing the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region and our collective national achievements,” he added.

Barzani also honored the memory of those killed during the revolution and all martyrs of Kurdistan.

The September Revolution began in 1961 under the leadership of Mustafa Barzani and became one of the most significant Kurdish armed movements in modern history. It brought Kurdish communities together in pursuit of political and national rights and ultimately contributed to the signing of the March 11, 1970 Agreement, which recognized Kurdish autonomy in Iraq.
