ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the seventh edition of the Hawler International Technology Exhibition (HITEX) in Erbil on Tuesday, bringing together more than 150 technology companies and startups from Iraq and abroad to showcase the latest advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, fintech and other emerging technologies.

The four-day exhibition, held from October 6–9 at the Erbil International Fairground in Sami Abdulrahman Park, was officially opened with the participation of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and senior government officials.

The official HITEX program lists the prime minister as the guest of honor for the opening ceremony.

Organizers say HITEX 2026 is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors and feature more than 150 exhibiting companies, with participants expected from more than 15 countries.

The event also includes more than 30 startups, over 40 expert speakers and a program of panels, fireside discussions, seminars and workshops.

The exhibition provides a platform for international and regional technology companies to present their latest products and services and explore opportunities for partnerships and investment in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Focus on artificial intelligence and robotics

Artificial intelligence is among the main areas featured at this year's exhibition, alongside the Internet of Things, telecommunications, cybersecurity, financial technology, robotics and consumer technology.

Visitors can see a range of emerging technologies and applications, including humanoid robots and specialized drones designed for firefighting and mine detection and clearance, according to the organizers.

The exhibition's conference program will also address the economic and technological implications of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Sessions scheduled for the following days will cover foreign direct investment, Iraq's digital economy, government AI partnerships, data, cybersecurity and digital identity.

Supporting startups and small businesses

HITEX is also providing space for startups and smaller businesses to showcase their products and services and connect with potential investors, partners and customers.

The organizers have dedicated a special area for startups, while the broader exhibition is designed to create opportunities for businesses to expand their presence and establish connections with local and international markets.

Since its launch in 2019, HITEX has developed into an annual technology exhibition and conference connecting technology companies with markets in Iraq and the wider region.

The official organizers describe it as Iraq's largest annual technology exhibition and conference.

The exhibition comes as the Kurdistan Region seeks to expand its digital economy, encourage technology-driven investment and strengthen the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in economic development.

By bringing international technology firms, startups and local businesses together in Erbil, HITEX provides a platform for knowledge exchange, business partnerships and greater exposure to emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
