ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Oman's ambassador to Iraq has praised the Kurdistan Region's strategic importance, stability, natural beauty, and rich history, describing Erbil's approach to regional conflicts as balanced and conducive to de-escalation.

On Sunday, Sheikh Mahmoud bin Muhanna, Oman's ambassador to Iraq, in a press conference told Kurdistan24 that his country attaches great importance to the Kurdistan Region's stability, natural environment, and strategic location.

He said relations between Muscat and Erbil were developing steadily, expressing optimism about expanding economic cooperation and investment. He also described the launch of direct flights between Muscat and Erbil as a practical step toward strengthening bilateral ties and promoting trade and tourism.

"The Kurdistan Region possesses every element of beauty: a rich history, breathtaking nature, and generous, hospitable people," the ambassador said.

He added that relations between Oman and Iraq were at a very good level, with ties to the Kurdistan Region continuing to develop.

Commenting on regional instability and political tensions, Muhanna said Oman appreciated the Kurdistan Region's role within Iraq's federal framework.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government's role in dealing with regional disputes and conflicts is very positive. Erbil has pursued a balanced policy that has made it a center for de-escalation and stability. The results of this distinctive policy will benefit everyone," he said.

Meanwhile, direct flights between Oman and the Kurdistan Region officially began on Sunday, with SalamAir’s inaugural flight arriving in Erbil from Muscat.

Ahmed Hoshyar, director general of Erbil International Airport, told Kurdistan24 that the new route could also serve as a transit connection for travelers heading to Europe.

Hoshyar said the direct service was expected to make travel more convenient and contribute to an increase in tourist arrivals, opening further opportunities for tourism and economic ties between Oman and the Kurdistan Region.
