ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Central Bank of Iraq announced on Tuesday that $1 billion in cash dollars will reach Baghdad within the next two weeks, delivered in two stages by the US Federal Reserve, while dismissing reports that the money had already arrived.

Speaking exclusively to Kurdistan24 on Tuesday, Mahmoud Daghir, spokesperson for the Central Bank of Iraq, said earlier shipments had already been sent to the bank.

“Cash dollars were previously sent in two stages by the US Federal Reserve to the Central Bank, and at present, cash dollars are available at the Central Bank of Iraq,” Daghir stated.

Addressing the rumors that new money had arrived on Tuesday, the spokesperson said the claims had no basis.

“The rumors and reports claiming that cash dollars have reached Iraq today are far from the truth,” Daghir clarified. “Rather, it is planned that $1 billion in cash dollars will reach us within the next two weeks, in two stages and by means of two special aircraft.”

On how the funds will be used, Daghir pointed out that the cash dollars will be earmarked entirely for providing dollars to travelers. He stressed that the money will not be used in any way to distribute salaries or to cover financial shortfalls.

With the two flights expected within the coming two weeks, the Central Bank of Iraq has made clear that the incoming dollars are intended solely for travelers’ needs.
