KRG Official Praises Kurdistan24's International Role During 11th Anniversary Visit
Dindar Zebari commends the network's five-language media strategy and its role in conveying the Kurdistan Region's story to international audiences
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Dindar Zebari, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Coordinator for International Advocacy, praised Kurdistan24's role in communicating the voice and message of the people of the Kurdistan Region during a visit to the network's headquarters in Erbil on Sunday, marking the 11th anniversary of its broadcasting launch.
Zebari was received by Shaho Tayeb, Kurdistan24's General Manager, who welcomed the official to the institution's headquarters as the network marked more than a decade of broadcasting and media operations.
During the visit, Zebari extended his congratulations to the management, journalists, staff and employees of Kurdistan24, wishing the institution continued success in carrying out its media responsibilities.
He highlighted the network's achievements over the past 11 years, praising its efforts to convey an accurate and impartial picture of the Kurdistan Region through its television broadcasts, website and various social media platforms, reaching audiences locally, regionally and internationally.
Zebari also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Kurdistan24's management and staff in producing professional media content across five languages, describing the multilingual strategy as an important achievement that has helped bring the voice of the Kurdistan Region and its developments to a wider international audience.
Kurdistan24's international reach
Established in Erbil, Kurdistan24 began broadcasting on October 31, 2015, at a critical moment in the Kurdistan Region's history, as Peshmerga forces were engaged in the war against the Islamic State (ISIS).
The institution entered the Kurdish media landscape during a period of significant security, political and economic challenges, with its coverage focusing on developments affecting the Kurdistan Region and the wider region.
Over the past 11 years, Kurdistan24 has developed into a multimedia organization comprising television, radio, a multilingual website and digital platforms. Its content reaches audiences through Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji), English, Arabic, Persian and Turkish.
The network's multilingual approach has enabled it to communicate developments in the Kurdistan Region to different audiences, including international media consumers, diplomats, policymakers and researchers interested in Kurdish affairs and Middle Eastern developments.
Kurdistan24 English and the global audience
Kurdistan24's English-language service has a particular role in extending the institution's reach beyond Kurdish-speaking audiences. Through its English-language reporting, the service covers political, security, economic and diplomatic developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider Middle East, while also reporting on major international affairs.
By presenting local developments in an international news format, Kurdistan24 English provides an important channel through which events in the Kurdistan Region can reach readers who do not speak Kurdish or follow regional developments through local-language media.
Its coverage of regional conflicts, international diplomacy, security developments, economic affairs and the Kurdistan Region's relations with foreign governments and international institutions contributes to bringing Kurdish perspectives and developments into wider international discussions.
The English-language platform also serves readers seeking information about the Kurdistan Region's political institutions, economic developments, security challenges and relations with Baghdad and international partners.
A media institution launched during the war against ISIS
Kurdistan24 began its broadcasting operations when the Kurdistan Region and Peshmerga forces were confronting ISIS, which had seized large territories across Iraq and Syria and posed a major security threat to the region.
The institution's launch coincided with a period when international attention was focused on the fight against ISIS, the humanitarian consequences of the conflict and the role of Kurdish forces in confronting the group.
Kurdistan24's anniversary marks 11 years of media operations since that period, as the institution enters its 12th year with an expanded multilingual and digital presence.
Its development reflects the growing importance of international communication in reporting on the Kurdistan Region, particularly as political, security and economic developments increasingly connect local affairs with broader regional and international issues.
