Kirkuk’s KDP bloc welcomed the Reactivation of Kurdistan Parliament and election of its new presidency on Nov. 4, calling it vital for rule of law and coexistence.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) bloc in the Kirkuk province council congratulated the people of Kurdistan on the Reactivation of the Kurdistan Parliament and the election of its new presidency, describing the step as a decisive turning point for strengthening the foundations of democracy and the rule of law.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the KDP bloc in the Kirkuk province council extended its warmest congratulations to the people of Kurdistan and all of its diverse components on the occasion.
The statement said the Reactivation of the Kurdistan Parliament, after it passed through a sensitive phase, together with the election of the new presidency, is a strategic and important step toward consolidating the pillars of democracy, entrenching the rule of law and deepening the values of peaceful coexistence in the Kurdistan Region.
The bloc pointed to the high standing of the Parliament and declared: “The Kurdistan Parliament, as the highest authority of legislation and oversight, has always been the true home of citizens and the pure mirror of the national voice and will of all classes and segments.”
The statement also made clear that the return of activity to this constitutional institution and the election of its new presidency present a golden opportunity to cement national unity and pass modern and just legislation.
The KDP bloc in Kirkuk expressed hope that the Parliament’s new presidency, in a national spirit and with a sense of responsibility for this stage, will stay close to citizens’ problems and demands.
It also hoped the presidency would play a prominent role in establishing calm, political stability and continued development across the Kurdistan Region.
The statement comes as the Kurdistan Parliament held a session on Wednesday with 52 lawmakers in attendance and elected its presidency.
Separately, Vala Fardi, head of the KDP bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, addressed a message to all blocs at a press conference, urging them to take part in the Parliament’s upcoming sessions.
She also asked the blocs to submit the names of their candidates for the Parliament’s committees by Monday of next week, particularly for the legal committee.
