Explosions Reported On Iran’s Qeshm Island
Iranian media report two explosions and a fighter jet overhead, with no casualties, while Tasnim says unidentified jets were seen over Najaf in Iraq; none of the reports is confirmed
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Iranian state television reported late Friday that two explosions were heard in the Souza area on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the country's south, and that there were no casualties. The Revolutionary Guards-linked Tasnim news agency separately reported that the loud sound of a fighter jet passing over Qeshm city and surrounding areas worried some residents, some of whom left their homes, according to reports from the public. Tasnim said no official source has commented and the reason for the flight has not been announced.
Fars news agency reported explosions in Qeshm and in the port city of Bandar Khamir, which it said might be linked to warning shots fired toward the Strait of Hormuz. Tasnim earlier cited preliminary information that two missiles had struck Qeshm, without giving their origin or any damage. Tasnim also reported that unidentified fighter jets were seen over Najaf, Iraq. Iraqi officials had not commented, and Kurdistan 24 could not confirm that report.
Qeshm has been the site of repeated incidents this week. The US carried out limited strikes on the island on Monday, which US officials called defensive after Iranian fire at a US aircraft, The Wall Street Journal reported, and Trump later described one strike as “minor.” On October 29, Iranian media said the Revolutionary Guards’ Aerospace Force had intercepted a “hostile” fighter jet near Qeshm and forced it to leave, a claim that was not officially confirmed. Fars said then that some of the explosions heard were warning shots fired at vessels accused of operating without authorization. The Guards’ Navy said on Friday that two oil tankers struck mines and caught fire while trying to use unauthorized routes through the strait, a claim that could not be independently verified.
Trump said on Friday that the US was doing well with Iran and that no American soldiers had been killed in the conflict for about six or seven months. US officials have said they are weighing options, including new strikes. Iraq has previously complained of unauthorized aircraft over its territory, including Israeli jets over Najaf, Karbala and Basra in June 2025 and what its commanders described in March as an uncoordinated US airborne deployment in Najaf province.
