PHOTOS: Kurdish man domesticates wild goats in Kurdistan Region village

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Based in a Kurdistan Region village near the Iranian border, a Kurdish man has been raising and herding a flock of wild mountain goats in recent years as a hobby.

It all started when Kochar found and adopted two unsupervised younglings, he told Kurdistan 24 on Sunday. He has now domesticated a herd and cares for them on his farmhouse in Chya-Raza village near the border with Iran in Sulaimani province.

"I take them out for grazing twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon," said Kochar. He explained that tending to the herd has been difficult as they are "wild."

The goats are native to the rugged mountains of the Kurdistan Region and are known to be skittish, rarely approaching humans.

To tame them, Kochar keeps the does and kids in an enclosure where food is always available starting November until May, so they do not need to go out for food.
