Masoud Barzani, outgoing Canadian Amb. to Iraq talk election, political process

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – President Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), received on Sunday Ulric Shannon, the outgoing Canadian Ambassador to Iraq, a statement from Barzani's office said.

Mr. Shannon, who became Canada’s ambassador to Iraq in late 2019, paid a farewell visit to the Kurdistan Region on Sunday.

The statement added that the Kurdish leader and the Candian diplomat exchanged views on the political process in Iraq and the country's early parliamentary election and its aftermath.

Barzani stressed that the success of the political process in Iraq depends on strengthening democracy, applying the principle of partnership, and respecting the rights of all Iraqi components, the statement concluded.

Mr. Shannon also met with Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday and emphasized his country’s desire to further develop ties with the autonomous Kurdish region.
