ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Peshawa Hawramani, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), on Sunday announced that the KRG has declared tomorrow a public holiday in all its institutions and non-governmental educational academies due to the high probability of torrential rains.

Citizens are asked to comply with the guidelines, which instruct persons not to approach areas susceptible to flooding, such as areas downhill and areas without storm drains. Civil defense teams are also on standby in case of an emergency, the spokesperson added.

Post-rain floods are a perennial issue in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole, caused in large part by insufficient infrastructure, including inefficient or poorly maintained urban rainwater management, and sewage systems.
