ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday met with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al-Nahyan on the sidelines of the 28th UN Climate Conference’s (COP28) in Dubai.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated the UAE leadership and people on the occasion of the Gulf country’s National Day and thanked the UAE for its continued support of the Kurdistan Region.

Meanwhile, al-Nahyan stressed the importance of the Kurdistan Region's position as a bright example in Iraq and the region.

The latest developments in Iraq and the development of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE in various fields were also addressed.

In recent years, the Kurdistan Region has significantly developed its relations with the UAE. Prime Minister Barzani visited the country in mid-February and met with the president, vice president, and the emirs of Ajman, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah on the sidelines of the 2023 World Government Summit.

The UAE was one of the first Gulf countries to accept pomegranate exports from the Kurdistan Region. This was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and market Kurdish produce globally.

The UAE is also one of many Gulf countries that import Kurdish potatoes, essential for its fast-food industry, with global brands in the country such as McDonald's, KFC and Hardee's requesting several tons of the spuds weekly. Kurdish leadership has also expressed a desire to expand these exports to include figs, grapes, honey, apples, chickens, and eggs, among other types of produce.
