PM Masrour Barzani announced combating corruption in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government's Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani announced the launch of the First Report To Apply Strategic Procedures To Combat the Corruption in Kurdistan Region, on Wednesday in a platform held in Erbil.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government's efforts to combat the corruption in a speech on Wednesday, in Erbil. 

"We have a strong will to fight corruption and we have worked seriously for this purpose," The Premier stated in his speech 

The Premier emphasized the actions of fighting against corruption in the public sector has been one of the manifestos by the 9th Cabinet of the Kurdistan Region Government, "Fighting corruption and challenging the public resources waste is an important part of the agenda of the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, so we worked seriously and took the necessary actions to promote transparency and challenging the corruption,"

With the thorough cooperation by the Kurdistan Region Government (KRG), the first report about applying the strategic procedures to combat the corruption in Kurdistan region prepared, in September 2021, and the Council of Ministers approved the strategic procedures, it also reaffirmed its support towards transparency and fighting corruption steps.  

Prepared in full cooperation and coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government, the anti-corruption strategy continued, as well as the recommendations and proposals were presented by the Head of the Kurdistan Commission of Integrity in March 2024.

As the Premier highlighted a big part of those recommendations and suggestions were noticed by the 9th Cabinet at the KRG, as a result plans have been set to apply those guidance, advice and suggestions.  

The Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended compliment to the ministries and relevant parties were instructed to follow up the implementation of the recommendations from the report.

Some of the examples mentioned by the Prime minister:

- Digitalizing the Governmental businesses, building a firm infrastructure and an electronic government.

- Introducing banking system to many public services in Kurdistan Region.

- Promoting the reform programs, transparency and justice and prevent waste of public resources.
