The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has provided over six million US dollars of humanitarian aid to internally displaced families who reside in the Kurdistan Region, said the Deputy Head of BCF on Monday.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has provided over six million US dollars of humanitarian aid to internally displaced families who reside in the Kurdistan Region, said the Deputy Head of BCF on Monday.
The Kurdish non-profit organization provides social, cultural, and humanitarian aid to the people of Kurdistan, especially to the socio-economically disadvantaged members of society.
In a statement to Kurdistan24, the Deputy Head of BCF Mussa Ahmad said that during Ramadan BCF has provided aid to 224,057 displaced families that live in the Region.
Kurdistan is home to 1.8 million refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Some of them moved from Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) while the rest fled from other parts of Iraq due to the threat of the Islamic State (IS).
“The total number of people that BCF has provided aid to during the month of Ramadan is 1,588,610 people,” Ahmad said.
He pointed out that the NGO has spent a total $6.4 million for all of its humanitarian activities and aid in the Kurdistan Region during Ramadan. Most of the money has been used on food and basic home needs.
“The aid comes from different companies and wealthy people that wanted to contribute with humanitarian help,” he added.
Ahmad also mentioned that part of the money was distributed to over 22,000 disadvantaged families in different parts of the Region, including Erbil, Sulaimani, Duhok, Halabja and Kirkuk Provinces.
BCF is one of the most active humanitarian NGOs in Kurdistan that often provides a substantial amount of aid to IDPs and refugees.
It was founded in 2005 and strives to honor the great legacy of Malla Mustafa Barzani, the leader of the Kurdish Liberation Movement and influencer of the contemporary Kurdish nation.
BCF was one of the first organizations who responded to the call of Kobani’s reconstruction, a Kurdish city in Rojava after the city was liberated from IS on Jan. 26, 2015.
