In a press conference that was held in the early hours of Saturday, Munich police chief Hubertus Andra stated that the gunman was from Munich, but the motive behind the attack remained unclear.
Moreover, PM Barzani also issued a statement on the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) official website condemning the attack.
“Unfortunately, on Friday night, a gunman in Munich randomly opened fire on people in a public place that killed and injured several civilians,” the statement read.
“The KRG strongly condemns the terrorist attack and sends the sympathies of the people of the Kurdistan Region to the government of Germany and its civilians,” PM Barzani said.
“We also wish a speedy recovery for the wounded people,” the Prime Minister added.
He also mentioned that such attacks require the international community to work together to eradicate similar threats, which is spreading all around the world.
“Strengthening joint efforts to combat terrorist attacks must be one of the first priorities,” PM Barzani concluded.
