President Barzani: Iraq violates rights of people of Kurdistan
“If there is any solution, it should be in a way that ends the tragedies of people of Kurdistan.”
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A delegation from the Shia National Alliance visited the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, meeting with the Region’s senior officials and political parties.
Ammar al-Hakim, leader of National Alliance, the biggest Shia bloc in the Iraqi parliament, arrived in Erbil and was welcomed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) authorities.
In a meeting between the KRG Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani and Ammar al-Hakim, the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Shia National Alliance and solutions to the current issues facing the country and the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad were discussed.
In addition, the Shia delegation met with the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani.
According to a statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP), Hakim called for resolving the stranded issues between Erbil and Baghdad “within the political settlement initiative and forming a joint political and governmental committee,” to resolve the issues within a new Iraq.
Hakim talked about the coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army in the war against terror, adding that “the joint struggle is the main reason bringing all sides together and helps resolve the disputes.”
President Barzani talked about the atrocities committed against people of Kurdistan by successive Iraqi government since the fall of the Baath regime, and shed the light on the violations committed against people of Kurdistan after 2003, the KRP statement added.
Just like the previous phases, the partnership, rights of the people of Kurdistan were violated, working with the majority-language and it ended with cutting the salary of people of Kurdistan, President Barzani explained.
“Therefore, it led to the lack of trust and deepened the issues, Barzani said concluding that “If there is any solution, it should be in a way that ends the tragedies people of Kurdistan have suffered.”
