Iraq starts to produce gas from Nasiriyah oilfield
The federal government of Iraq has started to produce gas from the Nasiriyah oilfield in the south of the country at a rate of 50 million cubic feet a day, Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi said in a statement on Saturday.

The output is part of a plan previously announced by the ministry in December to boost the oil production at the field from 90,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 200,000 bpd, without the help of international companies, according to Reuters.
The production plan also includes using 50 million cubic feet of gas produced as a by-product of oil production to supply power stations in the province of Dhi Qar.
The federal government has continued to flare some of the gas extracted alongside crude oil in different fields.
The government aims to stop gas flaring by the end of 2021, which amounts to almost $2.5 billion in lost revenue for Baghdad, a sum that could fulfill most of the needs for the gas-based power generation, according to the World Bank.
