Deputy Iraqi parliament speaker's office in Kirkuk attacked
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Unknown assailants threw a stun grenade into the office of Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, in the city of Kirkuk on Wednesday.
The attack took place in the predominantly Kurdish neighborhood of Rahimawa, north of Kirkuk, causing some material damage without leading to any injuries, an informed source told Kurdistan 24.
Abdullah is a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and was elected as the second deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament on Jan. 09. He became a member of parliament after obtaining the majority of the Kirkuk vote in the Oct. 10 election.
No party has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amid similar assaults targeting the offices of Kurdish and Sunni partues, as well as two Kurdistan Region-affiliated banks in Baghdad.
