KRG Council of Ministers highlight civil servant salaries

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers convened for a meeting in Erbil on Wednesday, according to a KRG statement.

The ministers presented the latest federal budget law amendment developments, in addition to the latest developments in the oil and gas industry.

The council  stressed that the salaries of KRG civil servants “are their financial entitlements,” and they expect the Iraqi federal government to resolve this issue in 2024 rather than “mixing Kurdish financial entitlements with political disputes.”

Later on, the council presented articles and provisions of the first draft of the “Guidelines for Foreign Workers in the Kurdistan Region,” written by KRG Planning Minister Dara Rashid. 

According to Rashid, these guidelines aim to regulate work permits and visas, as well as create more job opportunities for young Kurdistan Region citizens.

The aim of the law is to increase the use of local workers by companies. 

Lastly, Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs Abdullah Haji Mahmood presented several proposals to the council related to political prisoners and detainees per their legal rights.
